With a few Indian stars, including Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin, set to play, BCCI has decided to shift the opening match of the Duleep Trophy from Anantapur to Bengaluru. Apart from Bumrah and Ashwin, the Indian cricket team skipper, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are also expected to participate in the domestic event.
Team India players in Duleep Trophy
Apart from Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah, the BCCI has also directed other leading players to participate in the Duleep Trophy. High-profile cricketers like KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal are expected to take part in the tournament, either fully or partially.
Hardik Pandya is a notable absentee among the top international players, as he has ceased playing red-ball cricket. However, selectors are likely to include Ishan Kishan, who has been frequently left out of international matches, in one of the four squads. Jasprit Bumrah will be exempt from domestic duties, and Mohammed Shami, currently rehabilitating from surgery, is unlikely to feature in the tournament.
Duleep Trophy start date
The opening match of the Duleep Trophy will take place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The first match will be played on September 5 (Thursday).
