When will Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli play for the Indian cricket team again?

After retiring from T20I internationals, will Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma play for India again? If yes, when can we expect Ro-Ko to hit the ground in Indian colors?

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are arguably the biggest names in Indian cricket, and both have done wonders for the nation in the sport. Recently, after a historic T20 World Cup win, which marked India’s second T20 World Cup trophy, both players announced their retirement from T20I internationals. Following their retirement, speculation has been all over about their return to the cricket field. Will they no longer play cricket for India? The answer is no, they are set to continue their careers in longer formats.

Will Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli play in ICC tournaments?

India’s next assignments will be the Champions Trophy, scheduled to take place in Pakistan next year, and the World Test Championship in England. In longer formats, India has performed well, reaching two finals in 2021 and 2023 but failing to cross the mark on both occasions, losing to New Zealand in 2021 and Australia in 2023.

In this scenario, their experience will be crucial for India in the upcoming tournaments. Just as they performed in the T20 World Cup, Virat’s innings of 76 runs in the finals and Rohit’s crucial performances in key matches greatly helped India.

Home games open the possibility for both Ro-Ko to feature!

Since India is going to host Bangladesh, New Zealand, and England, where numerous long-format games are going to happen. India will play two Tests with Bangladesh starting on September 19, followed by three Test matches against New Zealand in October. In January 2025, India will play three ODIs against England.

In conclusion, with all these matches lined up, we can assume that these senior players will participate. Since the next targets are the World Test Championship and the Champions Trophy, and considering Jay Shah’s statement where he has already confirmed that seniors will charm the spectators, we can expect both star players to do wonders during these games.
