Rohit Sharma was last dropped in 2018. The upcoming IND vs AUS 5th Test match could potentially mark the second time he is dropped from the Test squad.

The Indian captain Rohit Sharma could get dropped in the next match of the India vs Australia match on January 3 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. There is growing uncertainty surrounding Indian captain Rohit Sharma, as his coach declined to confirm whether he will feature in the fifth Test.

Rohit was unexpectedly absent from the pre-match press conference, with coach Gautam Gambhir stepping in at the last moment.

When asked about the situation, Gambhir avoided revealing whether the captain had been dropped.

When was the last time Rohit Sharma was dropped from India cricket team?

The Indian batter has been a permanent member of the Indian cricket team during Virat Kohli’s captaincy as well. However, during the 2018 series against South Africa in the third Test, the batter lost his place in the team due to consistent failures to deliver. He used to bat in the fifth position for the Indian cricket team, but his inconsistent performance led to his exclusion. Before the third Test match in Johannesburg, he had scored 10 and 47 at Centurion.

After being dropped from the team, he took on the new role of opening for the team in the match against South Africa in Visakhapatnam in 2019. The decision to move Rohit up the batting order was considered bold, but it proved to be a masterstroke as the ‘Hitman’ made a spectacular debut as a Test opener with a remarkable knock of 176 runs. He followed it up with another superb performance in the second innings, scoring 127 runs, which included seven fours and seven sixes, making him the first player to score two centuries in his debut Test as an opener.
