When Rohit Sharma hit 309*: Relieving Indian skipper’s triple ton in Ranji Troph

Rohit Sharma has showcased his ability to score big in all three formats of the game. The batter is among the select few to have scored multiple centuries in T20Is, ODIs, and Tests. The batter also has three double centuries in ODIs. However, the batter was already showcasing his ability to score big at the young age of 22.

On December 16, 2009, Rohit Sharma, while playing for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy, smashed his career high score of 309*. The score remains his highest score in cricket (international and domestic) to this day.

To this day, 309* remains the highest score by Rohit Sharma in cricket.

The match between Mumbai and Gujarat at the Brabourne Stadium saw his side win the toss and bat first. The two teams were facing each other in a group stage match in the Ranji Trophy Super League.

Coming into bat after another future Indian star, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma entered when Mumbai was 105/2. The batter would go on and on, ending the inning unbeaten at 309. His only triple ton saw him hit 38 fours and 4 maximums while batting at the number 5 spot.

Rohit Sharma played just 322 balls to score his triple century at an impressive strike rate of 95.96. Of the huge total of 648 runs, the right-handed batter contributed 47% of the score himself, with the next-best score being 144.

While the match between Mumbai and Gujarat was drawn, Mumbai went on to lift the title, with Rohit scoring 527 runs in 6 matches.
