Beckham was in attendance during the India vs. New Zealand semi-final clash in Mumbai, attending as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador alongside cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar.

While many would assume that Kuldeep Yadav, a Manchester United fan, would have been starstruck by Beckham’s presence, it turns out that the spinner had a different football idol during all these years. Yadav confessed to Ashwin, “I actually followed Manchester United because of Paul Scholes. I went to tell Beckham to convey the message to Scholes” which left Ashwin momentarily stunned. Scholes, known for his technical prowess and incredible long-range shooting, was a fan favourite during Yadav’s youth.

The Indian spinner also voiced his desire to do something for the development in Indian Football, like opening an academy to develop the potential and talent that the nation has in the sport.
“I want to do something to Indian football in future – we have lots of potential but they are not getting the full resources so my aim is to start an academy”. Kuldeep concluded.
