Gautam Gambhir, recently appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team, is keen on assembling a support staff with whom he shares a strong rapport and seamless coordination. Gambhir, who had served as a mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), played a major role in the appointments of Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate as assistant coaches. Both new assistant coaches for India were part of KKR’s coaching staff.
What will be India’s support staff?
Gambhir has named his favorites for the support staff, which include Abhishek Nayar, Ryan ten Doeschate, and Morne Morkel. While Morkel worked with Gambhir at Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) during the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Abhishek and Ryan were part of KKR’s victory in IPL 2024.

Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate will join Team India for the tour of Sri Lanka. The new head coach confirmed their appointments at a press conference.
“I have worked with people like Abhishek Nayar, Ryan Ten Doeschate very closely. In the last two months, especially in the IPL, I have enjoyed working with them. They are thorough professionals. Hope Ryan and Abhishek can have a successful stint. Hopefully, we can have a successful tenure as coaches. I am really looking forward to working with the rest of the other guys as well. I have had some really good feedback from the players about the other guys. I am really looking forward to working with them,” Gambhir said.
