Team India will play Australia in the Cricket World Cup final at Narendra Modi Stadium on November 19. While fans are excitingly waiting for the clash, there are doubts among the cricket lovers regarding the rules in case of a tied match in the tournament final.
Notably, the 2019 World Cup final had created a huge uproar when England were declared winners based on a superior boundary count after a Super Over tie. Will the tournament follow the same rule this time around?
Fortunately, no. The ICC have made some changes to rules to avoid the repeat of 2019 WC controversy.
According to the new rule, “if the match is tied a Super Over is played. If the Super Over is a tie, then subsequent Super Overs shall be played until there is a winner. Unless exceptional circumstances arise, there shall be an unlimited number of Super Overs played to achieve a result”.
This means that if the IND vs AUS final end in a tie, the match will move to a Super Over. If that too ends in a tie, another Super Over will be played till the winner is found.
However, in a case where weather conditions prevent a Super Over from happening, both India and Australia will be adjudged joint-winners.
