What records can Virat Kohli break in Border Gavaskar Trophy?

India will be taking on Australia for the Border Gavaskar Trophy on 22nd November at Perth.

The Border Gavaskar Trophy is just on the horizon and this means it is a big opportunity for players to showcase their brilliance. And ace Indian batter Virat Kohli can set the record straight as he is en route to breaking a few major records in the IND vs AUS Test series.

Though Virat Kohli has been criticized off late for his poor performances, his record against Australia makes him a major threat to the Aussies. Kohli has been sub-par in the longest format of the game. Kohli has managed just one fifty-plus score in Test cricket and is without a Test ton in the 2024 calendar year.

Records that Kohli can break in IND vs AUS Test series

Virat Kohli can break the mighty Sachin Tendulkar‘s record of being the only Indian with the most runs against Australia in BGT. Kohli currently has 1352 runs with a whopping average of 54.08. The ace Indian batter now needs 458 runs more to cross Sachin’s record of 1809 runs.

Virat Kohli is known for his magnificent centuries against the mighty Aussies. He currently has 6 Test tons and can easily become the highest ever if he manages to add 4 more tons. In doing so he will become the player with most tons as a visiting player. Currently, Jack Hobbs holds the record with 9 Test tons.

In terms of ground, the Adelaide Oval is a happy hunting ground for Kohli. If he managed to register 102 runs more, he can cross Brian Lara’s record of most runs (610) by a visiting batter on the ground. Kohli currently has 509 runs to his name. Furthermore, he has five Test tons in the venue. Adding one more can see him matching Jack Hobb’s record and becoming the first player to cross 1000 runs in the venue across all formats of the game.

Kohli will be playing his 100th international match against Australia during this India vs Australia Test series. And on doing so he will become the second Indian to achieve this feat after Sachin Tendulkar who has 110 caps against the Aussies.

Kohli can also match Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 20 centuries against Australia across all formats of the game. Kohli currently has 16 tons to his name and will need 4 more centuries to match the great Sachin’s record.
