“What pride.. go home” – Wasim Akram lashes out at Team Pakistan after exit from Champions Trophy

Champions Trophy: Despite a lot of expectations from the fans, Mohammad Rizwan's Pakistan ended without a win.

The Pakistan vs Bangladesh match in the Champions Trophy ended without a ball being bowled, and that meant, the hosts finished their campaign without any win in the tournament. Now, Mohammad Rizwan‘s team also face the risk of ending the CT 2025, at the last position, as they have a run-rate of -1.087.

Pakistan Kicked Out of Champions Trophy

They had lost their opening match vs New Zealand by 60 runs, and lost the India vs Pakistan match by a margin of six wickets. That is a true reflection of how poorly they played. Before their final group match, Wasim Akram was asked, if Pakistan would play to restore some pride — he came up with a prompt answer.

“What pride? I told you not to ask me this question. You play for pride when you have qualification going through your mind.  Both Pakistan and Bangladesh will go home after this match. Just play and go home,” Akram said on a chat show. This is a major embarrassment for a team who were the defending champions of the Champions Trophy in 2017.

Major Embarrassment for Hosts

The CT 2025 was supposed to be a special one for Pakistan team, as this was the first time in 29 years, that they had gotten a chance to host a major ICC tournament, after the 1996 World Cup. If that is not enough, there were more issues to deal with, for the team. Two of their star players were injured — Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman.

Apart from that India had refused to come to the nation, given security issues. Plus, there were reports of attacks/ abduction by terror outfits.
