The last year can be considered Jasprit Bumrah’s. The Indian pacer was one of the standout performers for India last year, earning recognition from both the ICC and now the BCCI for his remarkable performance. Bumrah is set to receive the Polly Umrigar Award for ‘Best Men’s International Cricketer’ of the 2023-24 season.
The award will be presented at the BCCI’s annual Naman Awards ceremony on February 1 in Mumbai.
This honor comes after Bumrah’s recent achievements, including being named ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year and ICC Cricketer of the Year. This will be Bumrah’s third Polly Umrigar award.
What is Polly Umrigar Award?
The Polly Umrigar Award is one of the prestigious BCCI Awards, recognizing Indian cricketers for their exceptional performances in international cricket. Established in 2007, the first recipient of the award was Sachin Tendulkar.
The awards are named after Polly Umrigar, who represented the Indian cricket team from 1948 to 1962 and also played first-class cricket for Bombay and Gujarat. Primarily a middle-order batsman, Umrigar also bowled occasional medium pace and off-spin. He captained India in eight Test matches between 1955 and 1958.
