Asia Cup 2023: After three days of hectic training in Asia Cup camp, Team India were given an off day from outdoor practice. Instead, the players attended team meeting and underwent Dexa scan at the NCA. Notably, the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) re-introduced the Yo-Yo test and Dexa scan results as criteria for selection after Team India’s T20 World Cup 2022 debacle.

While the Yo Yo Test was conducted on Day 1 of Asia Cup camp, Indian cricket players went through th Dexa Scan on Sunday.

What is the Dexa Scan?

The Dexa test is done to help the trainers and physios monitor and measure body fat percentage, lean muscle mass, water content, and bone density of the players.

The Dexa scan, also called a DXA Test, measures bone density using low dose X-rays. As per UK NHS, “During a bone density scan, a type of X-ray called dual energy X-ray absorptiometry is passed through your body. This is shortened to DEXA.”

Keeping the World Cup 2023 in mind, the BCCI has made fitness the main priority of Indian players. The National Cricket Academy (NCA) had developed the program in collaboration with its trainers in order to evaluate players’ fitness levels prior to the training camp.

Team India will complete their 6-day camp on August 29 and depart for Sri Lanka on August 30. They will play their first Asia Cup 2023 game against arch-rival Pakistan on September 2 in Kandy.
