What happens to Sarfaraz Khan with the return of KL Rahul for IND vs BAN Tests?

Sarfaraz Khan is likely to sit out of the playing XI for the upcoming IND vs BAN Test series, given that KL Rahul is most likely to be selected

Sarfaraz Khan had an impressive debut series against England after a long wait to don the Indian jersey. The Mumbai batter, who was constantly overlooked by the selectors despite consistent rock-solid performances in the domestic seasons, finally reaped his reward in 2024. However, Khan is likely to sit out once again, with near impossible scope of making it to the IND vs BAN Test XI.

Sarfaraz Khan to give way for KL Rahul

The return of KL Rahul to the side would mean Sarfaraz Khan would have to be benched. India don’t quite need the services of Sarfaraz given the depth of batting the XI will possess. With Rishabh Pant also returning to the side, Sarfaraz Khan will ideally have no spot left.

Sarfaraz can be included in the squad and may be given a chance if someone is injured. The prospects of his inclusion, otherwise, looks bleak. Not to forget, KL Rahul has far more experience and hence a much better record in Tests.

Latest news

Sarfaraz Khan made the most of his debut series, scoring 200 runs including three half-centuries in five innings. The absence of Virat Kohli and others paved way for Sarfaraz to make his much-awaited debut along with others including Dhruv Jurel, Rajat Patidar and others.

What’s next for Sarfaraz Khan?

Sarfaraz Khan is currently playing the Buchi Babu Invitation Tournament and is the captain of Mumbai. He has also been named in the Duleep Trophy squads alongside his brother Musheer. Sarfaraz is back to his favourite space which he has been dominating over the last few years. The cricketer is expected to use the red-ball experience to pave his way back into the side with some impressive performances.

IND vs BAN

However, most of these debutants will most likely warm the bench as India is expected to field a strong playing XI against Bangladesh. The series which begins from September 19 will mark the start of the second leg of India’s Test season.
