It will be a huge headache for the BCCI Selection Committee to finalize the Indian squad for the IND vs BAN Test series. With key players returning to red ball cricket after their injury crisis, quite a few youngsters will have to leave the squad to pave way for their seniors. One such player who can meet the chopping block is Devdutt Padikkal with KL Rahul set for Test cricket return.
Earlier, this year when almost half of the middle order was plagued with injuries, on stepped Devdutt Padikkal for the Indian Cricket Team. He went on to slam a fine fifty on his Test debut in the IND vs ENG 5th Test in Himachal Pradesh where India clinched a dominant 4-1 win.
Will Devdutt Padikkal get a chance?
If current form is to be taken into consideration, then it is highly unlikely that the 24-year old batter will get a chance in the team. To make matters worse for him is the return of the stalwarts in the team. Both KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are back with Team India.
While KL Rahul will slot at the middle order in the team, while there are doubts about Shreyas Iyer’s position in the India Playing XI. With Iyer failing to get a chance, there are huge doubts about Padikkal even being brought up in the conversation.

Fifty on Test Debut
Devdutt Padikkal had a Test debut to remember. The then 23-year old was brought in the squad as a replacement after some major injury crisis. And then on the fifth Test, Padikkal got his debut after Rajat Patidar suffered an ankle injury in training.
England opted to bat first and managed to score 218 runs. In reply, India amassed a huge score of 477 runs with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill slamming tons. Padikkal partnered Sarfaraz Khan with dual fifties in helping India piling up a huge score. In the second innings the Indian bowlers wreaked havoc to bowl out England for 195, ensuring India a win by innings and 40 runs.
Despite an impressive debut, it will be highly unfortunate for Devdutt Padikkal to miss out on a place in the India squad.
