The South Africa vs West Indies Super 8 tie will be a truncated match after rain interrupted play at the start of second innings. The match was halted shortly after the Proteas began the run-chase at the Sir Vivian Richards stadium in Antigua. The play is expected to resume with a revised target of 123 runs (via DLS method) and with three overs lost. Yet, there are chances for rain to return and not allow the game to be completed.
What happens if South Africa vs West Indies tie is abandoned?
If rain returns to play spoilsport in the contest, then both teams will get one point each. This would mean South Africa will be through to the semi-final of the T20 World Cup while it will be the end of the road for co-hosts West Indies.
South Africa have four points to their name and need just one more point or even better – a win – to make it to the semis. On the other hand, this is a must-win match for the Windies who only have two points to their name and desperately need two more in order to survive in the tournament.

West Indies batters falter
Put in to bat first after losing the toss, West Indies got off to an awful start in their Super 8 tie against SA. After losing Nicholas Pooran and Shai Hope for single digit scores, Roston Chase and Kyle Myers played slow-paced knocks to steady the ship for the co-hosts. Chase went on to capitalize on a dropped catch to go on to score a half-century.
The rest of the line-up crumbled as the Proteas bowlers struck at regular intervals. Tabraiz Shamsi bagged three wickets as SA managed to restrict WI to 135 runs in 20 overs. In reply, Andre Russel took out both the SA openers before rain stopped play.
