The Indian cricket team is all set to embark on their tour of Sri Lanka, where they will play three T20Is and three ODIs. On one hand, the T20I squad will present a new look with Suryakumar Yadav appointed as captain. On the other hand, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will return to their ODI roles for the three 50-over games against Sri Lanka.
India, having recently won the T20 World Cup, will aim to maintain their dominance in this bilateral series as well. Historically, India has performed consistently well against Sri Lanka. Out of 168 matches played between the two teams, India has won 99, while Sri Lanka has emerged victorious in 57.
As the competition is set to begin, it will be interesting to see how the Indian team fares, especially considering their last tour to Sri Lanka in 2021.
India’s performance in their last tour of Sri Lanka
India last toured Sri Lanka in July 2021, where they played three ODIs and three T20Is, just as they are scheduled to do in 2024. All matches were held at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. India won the ODI series convincingly with a 2-1 margin, with the final game being won by Sri Lanka by three wickets.
However, Sri Lanka managed a turnaround in the T20I series. After losing the first T20I to India by 38 runs, Sri Lanka came back strongly, winning the T20I series with a 2-1 margin. The Indian team was led by Shikhar Dhawan, while Sri Lanka was captained by Dasun Shanaka. Dhawan emerged as the top run-scorer in both formats, accumulating a total of 264 runs.
