How IPL 2025 player injury replacement rules are different from previous edition?

Teams can now replace injured players up until their 12th league match, an extension from the previous limit of seven matches.

The IPL 2025 injury replacement rules have drawn significant attention following Corbin Bosch’s inclusion in the Mumbai Indians’ squad as a replacement for Lizaad Williams. This move was reported as a potential violation of Bosch’s existing contract with the PSL, leading to legal action by the PCB. Consequently, it highlights the need for IPL franchises to revisit and thoroughly understand the replacement regulations, especially as they navigate the two-month-long season that starts on March 22 and concludes with the final on May 25.

IPL 2025 injury replacement rules

The IPL 2025 injury replacement rules have been updated to provide more flexibility for teams dealing with season-ending injuries or illnesses. Here are the key points:

  1. Replacement Window: Teams can now replace injured players up until their 12th league match, an extension from the previous limit of seven matches.
  2. Eligibility of Replacement Players: Replacement players must be listed in the Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP) for the season. Their league fee cannot exceed the fee of the player they are replacing.
  3. Salary Cap:
    • The league fee of replacement players does not count towards the team’s salary cap for the current season.
    • If the replacement player’s contract is extended to the next season, their fee will then count towards the salary cap.
  4. Conditions for Midseason Replacements:
    • The injury or illness must occur on or before the 12th league match of the team.
    • A BCCI-nominated doctor must confirm that the injury or illness is season-ending.
    • The replaced player cannot participate in any matches for the remainder of the season.
  5. Squad Size: Teams must ensure their squad size does not exceed the maximum limit of 25 players, even after replacements.
