What are ‘Electra’ stumps? Colour flashing wickets make debut at BBL 2023

The colour flashing 'Electra' wicket stumps, which previously were used in Women's BBL, made their debut in BBL 2023

The ‘Electra’ stumps have made their debut in the Big Bash League (BBL 2023) after being used in the Women’s BBL earlier. The highlight of these stump is the flashing of different shades and combinations of colours that indicate a decision. These decisions could be a no-ball, a wicket, a boundary or even the time out between overs.

Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan was a part of the unveiling of the new stumps before the start of the game. The stumps will have five different displays through the game. Here are the colours that’ll flash on the stumps

How do the ‘Electra’ stumps work in BBL 2023?

  1. 1. Out – Stumps will flash red and then fire colour
  2. 2. Boundary (four) – Colour shift (all colours flash in alternate pattern)
  3. 3. Six – All colours move upwards
  4. 4. No-ball: Red and white lights scroll along the stumps
  5. 5. Between overs: A pulse between the purple and blue scroll
