The tentative roster for the five-match T20I Series against India, which begins on Thursday, August 3, at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad, has been released by the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Senior Men’s Selection Panel. West Indies squad includes the Major League Cricket 2023 winner Nicholas Pooran, and Shimron Hetmyer.
To every game, the entire 15-person provisional squad will travel. Following that, a 13-person squad for each game will be chosen, from which the starting XI will be chosen.
Shai Hope, a wicketkeeper/batsman, and Oshane Thomas, a fast bowler, have also won recalls for this format. Hope played his final game in India in February 2022, while Thomas played his final game in Pakistan in December 2021.
Shimron Hetmyer who was included in the ODI squad has also been recalled for the T20 series vs India. In August 2022, during a home T20I series against New Zealand, Hetmyer made his last appearance for the West Indies.
While Nicholas Pooran who was unavailable for ODIs vs India, courtesy MLC 2023, returns to international duty in the shortest format. Last Sunday, the Seattle Orcas were completely destroyed by Nicholas Pooran, who led MI New York to a stunning 7-wicket victory in the American Major League Cricket championship game. Pooran, the captain of the Mumbai Indians franchise’ was in outstanding form as his terrifying 137*(55) innings in Dallas gave his team the first-ever MLC championship by helping them chase down 184 in just 16 overs.

Dr. Desmond Haynes, the Lead Selector, said:
“With the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in mind, the squad was chosen. As we search for the ideal pairings, we are examining several plans. As we get ready, we’re trying to put together a team that we think will be able to do the task when we host the international event in a little under a year. We have some match-winners in our lineup, and starting on Thursday here in Trinidad, we’ll try to prepare properly.”
Haynes added: “We also have additional players that might be taken into account moving ahead; the Caribbean Premier League will begin play next month.”
The first game will take place on Thursday at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. On Sunday, August 6, and Tuesday, August 8, the teams will play their second and third games at the Guyana National Stadium.
The final matches in the series will take place on Saturday, August 12, and Sunday, August 13, over a blockbuster weekend at the Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida. At 10:30 a.m. local time (9:30 a.m. Jamaica Time), all games begin.
