West Indies cricketer Fabian Allen recently fell prey to a shocking incident in Johannesburg, where he is playing in the SA20 2024 at the moment. The Paarl Royals all-rounder was mugged at gunpoint outside his hotel. The incident left the cricketer shaken.
According to a report from Cricbuzz, the miscreants were armed with a gun and confronted the West Indies player near the Sandton Sun Hotel. The cricketer was robbed of his phone, and personal belongings, including a bag.
Multiple sources connected with the Paarl Royals as well West Indies cricket acknowledged the truth behind the incident. A source from the West Indies cricket board confirmed that the player was unharmed in the incident.
“Our head coach Andre Coley, also hailing from Jamaica, reached out to Fabian. Contact was successfully established through Obed McCoy (another West Indies international). He is fine. CSA (Cricket South Africa) and his team, Paarl Royals, could share more details if there are any,” a top CWI official told Cricbuzz.
The incident raises security concerns regarding the popular franchise T20 tournament, specially given the fact that this is not the first time an incident such as this has occurred.
