West Indies head coach Andre Coley wants the side to take inspiration from the historic Gabba Test to stun England in the 2nd ENG vs WI Test. The Men in Maroon were humbled by an innings and 114 runs in the 1st Test at Lord’s. Coley reckoned that the side displayed lack of intensity in the game and urged the players to up their game as they head into the 2nd Test at Trent Bridge.
Can West Indies replicate Gabba heroics?
Ahead of the 2nd Test, head coach Coley stated that there was a reason why the game was called a Test match, citing testing conditions which the side was not used to as they weren’t playing the series at home. He further urged the side to take a leaf out of their epic comeback against Australia last year in Gabba where they stunned the opposition thanks to Shamar Joseph’s heroics.
“They would’ve taken a lot of positives from that,” Coley said about the Gabba Test. “In terms of how we were able to bounce back, the process that we went through to be able to do that I believe is a lot more powerful [than the result].
He admitted that the side comprised of young and emerging players. However, Coley claimed that there were still a lot of positives for the side as they headed into the 2nd Test.
Throwback to WI’s Gabba heroics
