Former England captain Michael Vaughan trolled Bangladesh cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim following latter’s bizarre dismissal in Bangladesh vs New Zealand second Test in Mirpur on Wednesday.
Mushfiqur Rahim was dismissed for ‘obstructing the field’ after he shoved the ball away with his glove while trying to protect his off stump.
Michael Vaughan, one of the eight players dismissed for handling the ball (a similar dismissal integrated into the ‘obstructing the field’ category after a rule change in 2017), welcomed the Bangladesh veteran to the club.
“Welcome to the very exclusive Handled ball club @mushfiqur15.. only proper players are members.”, Vaughan wrote on X.
What is ‘obstructing the field’ law?
According to MCC law, “The striker is out obstructing the field if, except in the circumstances of 37.2, in the act of receiving a ball delivered by the bowler, he/she willfully strikes the ball with a hand not holding the bat. This will apply whether it is the first strike or a second or subsequent strike. The act of receiving the ball shall extend both to playing at the ball and to striking the ball more than once in defence of his/her wicket.”
