‘Welcome Back’ Netizens Thrilled as Shreyas Iyer slams Century vs Australia

Shreyas Iyer had been under immense pressure to perform. The right-handed batter got out cheaply in the first ODI against Australia.

Indian batter Shreyas Iyer scored a quickfire century on a batting paradise in Indore during the second ODI match between India and Australia on Sunday. After being invited to bat, India lost Gaikwad early as Hazlewood scalped him. However, Iyer took the attack to the Aussie pacers and put India on the front-foot. Netizens on social media hailed Iyer for his marathon innings as India look to seal the series at the Holkar Stadium.

Iyer failed to leave any impact in first ODI vs Australia

To note, Iyer had been in immense pressure to perform. Earlier, on a good flat deck in Mohali, the returning Iyer failed to leave any impact, getting out cheaply (run-out) on just three runs. With a lack of runs, his chances of breaking into the final XI for India’s first game against Australia in WC opened looked bleak. However, the right-handed batter has given a statement with his bat on Sunday.

However, the right-handed batter gave his best and stroked his third ODI century ahead of the all-important World Cup. During his marathon innings, Iyer smashed ten boundaries and three maximums. However, during his latter part of the innings Iyer was seen struggling with cramps and straightaway after completing his century, he was dismissed by pacer Sean Abbott.

Meanwhile, here are some Twitter Reactions on Iyer:
