Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant made a highly-anticipated return to competitive cricket on Saturday in his team’s IPL opener against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) after a 453-day break. Batting at the No. 4 position, Pant scored a cautious 18 runs off 13 balls before being dismissed by Harshal Patel in the 13th over of the innings.
During his time at the crease, Pant struck a couple of boundaries and appeared to be in good form. However, he was caught by Jonny Bairstow at backward point after misjudging a slower bouncer from Harshal Patel.
Pant’s comeback holds special significance as he had suffered a serious accident in December 2022, when his Mercedes SUV crashed on the Delhi-Dehradun highway near the Roorkee border. The accident resulted in multiple injuries for Pant, making his return to cricket a moment of celebration for fans and supporters.
