“We want 25-year-old to..” – Prithvi Shaw’s school coach opens up on his struggles lately

IPL 2025: Despite listing at a base price of only INR 75 lakh, Prithvi Shaw went unsold at the IPL Auction last month.

There has been a lot of chatter around India batter Prithvi Shaw‘s massive decline in form, and even his non-selection at the IPL Auction, recently. Many have warned, that his career might be headed, the way Vinod Kambli’s career went. But then now, one of his childhood coaches, Raju Pathak has revealed the reason for his struggles.

Prithvi Shaw Comparison with Vinod Kambli

The Rizvi Springfield school coach spoke about the financial struggles of the family, and also how not having mother around, could be the reason’s for Prithvi Shaw’s downfall. “They were not well off. His father was trying some business but it was not working out. They had seen hard times and growing up Shaw had to depend on help from others. It wasn’t easy. And he didn’t have a mother who could guide him the way only a mother can,” Pathak told the Indian Express.

“He has been successful so early. The boy who once saw daily struggle and shortage of money at home suddenly has a decent bank balance. So when money keeps coming in, he will enjoy it and this happens with all players who are deprived of things.

Struggles Real, Says Coach

“They want to live their life after all this is what they wanted. Fame, money. There have been players in the past who have crossed similar paths. Problem is we want a 25-year-old Shaw to behave like a 40-year-old mature man,” added Pathak.

Prithvi first came to the fore, when under his leadership India won the U-19 World Cup in 2018. From there on he made the Indian Test team soon, and even struck a hundred in his debut match. But since then it has been a struggle for the talented batsman. There was a time when he was banned for doping violation as well.
