‘We didn’t capitalise’, Rohit Sharma BLAMES poor shots selection for WTC 2023 Final defeat

India's wait for an ICC title extended as they suffered a 209-run defeat in the World Test Championship (WTC) final at The Oval on Sunday.

IND vs AUS: After suffering a hearbreaking loss in WTC Final 2023 against Australia, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma on Sunday said the bowling in first innings let the team down.

“We bowled well in the first session and then we let ourselves down with how we bowled”, Rohit said in post-match presentation.

Travis Head (163) and Steve Smith (121) were the stars for Australia in first innings as the team posted a brilliant 469 on a challenging pitch.

Rohit gave credit to Australian batters and said that the partnership between Smith and Head took the team “off guard”.

“Got to give credit to the Australian batters. Head came in and played really well along with Steven Smith. That just took us off guard a little bit”, the Indian skipper added.

India’s wait for an ICC title extended as they suffered a 209-run defeat in the World Test Championship (WTC) final at The Oval on Sunday. India needed 444 to win in the second innings but were bundled out for 234.

Australia dominated the Test from Day 1, with Travis Head and Steve Smith knocking centuries to power Australia to 469 in the first innings.

India’s top-order failed once but Ajinkya Rahane’s 89, with vital contributions from Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja helped India avoid the follow-on.

Australia scored 270/8 before declaring the innings. Chasing 444, India reached 164/3 at the Stumps on Day 4. While fans were hoping for a Virat Kohli masterclass, Scott Boland ended India’s hopes as he got rid of Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja in the same over. Kohli was caught at slips by Steve Smith for 49, while Jadeja was caught-behind for duck. The lower order couldn’t show much fight and the Men in Blue were eventually bowled out for 234.
