“We are hopeful” – CSK CEO gives massive update on MS Dhoni’s participation in IPL 2025

IPL 2025: During last year's edition, MS Dhoni had passed on the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad, after leading CSK for many years.

Even after almost two decades of the IPL, MS Dhoni is still the most sought-after player. Of course, he has won multiple trophies with the CSK, but the Chennai Super Kings can never have enough of “Thala Dhoni”. Like every year, one the biggest questions this year is, will MS Dhoni play in IPL 2025? His former teammate R Ashwin has already said, that he wasn’t aware if MSD would play, and now team CEO Kasi Viswanathan has opened up on the same.

MS Dhoni in IPL 2025?

It is important to note, that this year, the BCCI has reintroduced the rule that states, a player who has not represented the country in 5 years, will be treated as an “uncapped player”. And those players are eligible to get INR 4 Cr. So that means Dhoni stands in the same bracket. This has led many to believe, that he might not play after all.

Kasi Viswanathan on MSD Future in CSK

In an interview with TOI, Kasi Viswanathan said, “We are not sure at this stage. We might not even use it for MS Dhoni. It’s still too early to comment on this because we haven’t had discussions with him. Dhoni was in the US and we haven’t had discussions yet. Now I am travelling this week, so there is a possibility of some discussions in the coming week. So there could be some clarity then. We are hopeful of him playing but it’s a call Dhoni will himself make.”

Dhoni last played for Team India during the 2019 World Cup semis against New Zealand, that we lost narrowly. Since then, he only features in the IPL.
