Virat Kohli to join Asia Cup camp

Insidesport

Virat Kohli has returned to India after Test and ODI series in West Indies. The 34-year-old is not part of the ongoing IND vs WI T20I series and has not been included in IND vs IRE T20Is as well. Kohli will now gear up for the Asia Cup, which will be held in Sri Lanka and Pakistan from August 31 to September 17.

Kohli will join the rest of the Indian team members for the Asia Cup camp. The camp will take place between 24-29 at National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who are yet to be deemed fully fit, will also be part of the camp and a decision on their fitness will be taken after the camp.

Virat Kohli to sacrifice No.3 spot?

There is still no clarity around KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer’s fitness. If both player fail to get fit for Asia Cup 2023, there is a high chance Virat Kohli might have to sacrifice his no.3 spot for Shubman Gill.

No Rahul and Iyer would mean Indian will have to play Ishan Kishan who will open. If Kishan opens with captain Rohit then Shubman Gill bat is likely to come one down.

Gill has batted at No.3 or lower in domestic cricket. If he is given the role to bat at No.3 that would mean Virat Kohli will have to leave that spot. But will the Team management take the risk of changing Kohli’s position considering his mind-boggling records at no.3 spot? It will be interesting to watch.
