Ugly scenes at Lord’s, Khawaja & David Warner get into spat with MCC members after Bairstow run-out

Ashes 2023: The second Ashes Test between England and Australia saw many dramatic events. Day 5 of the thrilling Test match witnessed few big incidents. Australian cricketers Usman Khawaja and David Warner got engaged in a heated exchange with a member of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) while walking towards the dressing room during the lunch break on Day 5.

The incident took place in the iconic Long Room, leading to a confrontation between the Australian duo and the member, which required security intervention to defuse the situation.

The incident occurred as Australian teammates were making their way to lunch on the final day of the Test match.

Reports claimed that the MCC member uttered something that irked Khawaja and Warner, resulting in a confrontation. While the exact words exchanged are not yet revealed, it was apparent that both players were visibly agitated by the incident.

Security personnel swiftly stepped in to separate Khawaja and the MCC member, preventing the situation from escalating further.

However, the altercation involving Khawaja was not the only controversy to unfold on the final day of the Test match. Prior to this incident, a controversial dismissal of England’s Jonny Bairstow had caused an uproar among the Lord’s crowd. Bairstow was stumped by Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey after he left his crease following ducking a bouncer from Cameron Green.

Confusion arose when Bairstow assumed the ball was dead at the end of the over, while the Australian team decided to appeal for the stumping. The decision was referred to the TV umpire, Marais Erasmus, who cgave him out, adding fuel to the controversy.

Talking about the game, Australia registered a 43-run win at Lord’s and took a 2-0 lead in the 5-match Ashes series.

While England skipper Ben Stokes led the charge with his stunning 155, the side failed to chase down 371 set by the visitors on Day 4.
