Watch TKR Sunil Narine handed first ever Red Card in CPL 2023

In CPL 2023 game between SNP vs TKR, umpires found TKR one over behind the over rate and handed red card to TKR skipper Keiron Pollard

First-ever victory, first-ever five-wicket haul, first-ever 100, first things always hold a special place in each sportsperson’s heart. However, for Sunil Narine, this first-ever Red card won’t hold any special place. The incident occurred during the 19th over of St Kitts & Nevis Patriots innings, when the umpires found Trinbago Knight Riders one over short and handed them over rate penalty.

Before the start of the 20th over, the umpire spoke to TKR captain Keiron Pollard and took the dreaded red card. TKR had to field with 10 players for the last over of SNP’s innings, with only two fielders outside the 30-yard circle. TKR captain Pollard sent Narine off the field, and thus CPL witnessed the first-ever Red card.

For the uninitiated, the Red card rule came into implementation in this year’s CPL tournament. The dreaded card is given to teams when umpires find them behind over rate at the start of the 20th over. The captain will pick the player whom the team will have to lose for the final six balls of the innings. 4. The batting team will also penalized if found wasting time.
