The Indian cricket team has arrived for their final challenge in Sydney for the IND vs AUS 5th Test. The team will be playing it’s final Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 at Sydney Cricket Ground. Earlier, on Monday, December 30, Australia defeated India by 184 runs in the Melbourne Test, taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. The loss has reduced India’s chances of making it to the WTC finals, with all hopes now pinned on the upcoming Sydney Test on January 3.

Must-win game for WTC Finals
It will be a must-win game for India to reach WTC Finals. However, even after winning, the team will not guarantee a place in the finals. For WTC final, they must win the final Test against Australia in Sydney and hope for a favourable outcome for Sri Lanka (or a 0-0 draw) when Australia visits the island nation early next year. Following the loss, India’s point percentage (PCT) has dropped to 52.78 from 55.89, while Australia has improved their PCT to 61.46. South Africa has already secured their spot in the WTC final after defeating Pakistan by two wickets in the first Test on Sunday. If India wins in Sydney, they will have a PCT of 55.26, while Australia will be at 54.26. A victory in one of two Tests against Sri Lanka would allow Australia to surpass India’s PCT and join South Africa in the final.
