In what was an absolutely worthy game for a T20 World Cup final, India conquered the final frontier by defeating South Africa by seven runs. As has been the norm throughout the last few series, another esteemed person presented the best fielder award to one of India’s finest cricketers. However, this time it wasn’t a former cricketer but BCCI secretary Jay Shah. It was difficult to think past Suryakumar Yadav for the award, specially for his catch to dismiss David Miller in the last over.
No doubt about best fielder recipient
Interestingly, in each of the previous fielder of the match awards, fielding coach T Dilip announced the names of some nominees before choosing one for the award. However, there was no doubt about who might win the award in the final as Dilip whispered the name of Suryakumar Yadav to Jay Shah as the latter called up the Indian batter to collect the award.

Suryakumar’s catch changed the trajectory of the match at a time when a six could have spelt doom for India. Miller was looking menacing and tried to heave the first ball of the last over over long-on. Surya ran all the way, caught the ball on the boundary line, lifted the ball in the air while he crossed the rope, came back inside the field and caught the ball.
