If Rohit Sharma has ruled in the powerplays, it’s Shubman Gill who has learnt the tricks best from his opening partner. And as Rohit returned to the pavillion in IND vs NZ Cricket World Cup semifinal at the Wankhede Stadium, Shubman Gill showcased his six-hitting skills. And the master of the trade Rohit Sharma was mighty impressed. But there was another special guest in the stands: Sara Tendulkar, a long-rumoured girlfriend of Gill. Before Gill limped off with cramps, he hammered 79 off 65 balls including three giant sixes.

Shubman Gill delights crowd

After Rohit got out for a quick-fire 47, Gill took the matters in his own hand as he attacked the New Zealand bowlers with a flurry of boundaries. He took a particular liking for express pacer Lockie Ferguson, smashing him for two lovely boundaries in the tenth over. On Gill’s fireworks, his rumoured girlfriend Sara Tendulkar was ecstatic, as she clapped to appreciate Shubman Gill.

Earlier in the match, team India won the toss and opted to have a bat first on a good-looking but slowish track of Wankhede. Both Rohit and Shubman Gill gave a blazing start to the Men in Blue before Virat Kohli took the crease and completed yet another fifty in the World Cup. After Gill’s departure from the crease, Shreyas Iyer joined Virat Kohli in the middle as the home side must be targeting a total of 370+ runs in Mumbai.
