Left out, not left behind: Shah Rukh Khan stands by Rinku Singh after T20 World Cup snub

While missing out on the World Cup is a setback, Rinku's talent and international record remain undeniable. With continued support from KKR and his fans, he has the potential to overcome this hurdle and cement his place in the Indian T20 squad for future tournaments.

Disappointment struck Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Rinku Singh after he was named only as a reserve player for the upcoming T20 World Cup squad. Despite a stellar run with Team India in limited-overs cricket, Rinku’s lack of playing time in the IPL due to the ‘Impact Player’ rule is believed to have cost him a spot in the main squad. Amid this snub, KKR co-owner and Bollywood legend Shah Rukh Khan showcased a grand gesture for young batter.

Impact Player Rule Creates Hurdle for Rinku Singh

The IPL’s new ‘Impact Player’ rule allows teams to substitute one player during the mid-innings break, essentially making it a 12-man contest. While the rule adds a tactical element, it disadvantaged Rinku Singh. Treated as a finisher by KKR, he rarely batted in the top five and only managed 82 balls in eight innings before the selection. This lack of substantial game time seems to have been a deciding factor for the selectors.

KKR Co-owner Shah Rukh Khan supports Rinku Singh

In a heartwarming gesture, KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan, a vocal supporter of Rinku, was seen accompanying the player on a trip to Mumbai. This public display of support comes as Rinku navigates the disappointment of missing out on the World Cup despite strong form in international matches.

Competition for All-rounder Spot in India Cricket Team

Rinku Singh faced stiff competition for a spot in the middle order, particularly from Shivam Dube. With Hardik Pandya already a lock-in as a seam-bowling all-rounder, the selectors seemingly opted for Dube, who had more playing time with Chennai Super Kings during the IPL.
