Kerala skipper and wicketkeeper Sanju Samson took a stunning catch to dismiss Maharashtra skipper Kedar Jadhav in the Vijay Hazare Trophy clash on Saturday. Chasing a mammoth 384 in the pre-quarterfinal clash, Maharashtra were looking solid in the chase but Sanju Samson’s stunning take behind the stumps opened the game for Kerala.
The dismissal happened in the 23rd over. Basil Thampi bowled a brilliant out-swinging delivery at a stump line which forced Jadhav took have a poke at it. The ball took a thick edge and was going wide of the wicketkeeper. However, Samson took a big dive towards his right and grabbed the catch with one hand.
The dismissal of Kedar Jadhav helped Kerala to tighten the screws on Maharashtra and the Samon-led side went on to win the game by 153 runs to enter the quarterfinals.
Earlier, centuries from openers Krishna Prasad (144) and Rohan Kunnummal (120) powered Kerala to a mammoth 383 in 50 overs.
Maharashtra openers Om Bhosale (78) and Kaushal Tambe (50) provided a brilliant start to Maharashtra in the big chase but back-to-back dismissals derailed team’s chase and Maharashtra were eventually bowled out for 230 in 37.4 overs.
Leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/35.
Kerala will take on Rajasthan in the quarterfinals on December 11.
