WATCH Sachin Tendulkar announces Shreyas Iyer as winner of best fielder award

Shreyas Iyer continued his good form with bat in hand by also showing great fielding skills in India's game against Sri Lanka

After announcing two best fielder awards via spidey camera, this time Indian Cricket team’s fielding coach T Dilip asked Sachin Tendulkar to annouce the best fielder after the India vs Sri Lanka match yesterday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Tendulkar also briefly spoke about India’s fielding and shared a small story about how Sourav Ganguly-led India fielded in the 2003 World Cup. After sharing that short anecdote, Tendulkar answered Shreyas Iyer as the winner of the best fielder award.

Shreyas was presented the award by KL Rahul, who had won in the previous game against IND vs ENG. Shreyas was beaming with a smile when Tendulkar announced his name. All his teammates were seen clapping and hugging him.

Not only with the bat in hand, Shreyas was also sharp on the field during Sri Lanka’s run chase. The star Indian batter pouched two good catches and helped the bowlers bundle the Lankans out for just 55 runs. The 28-year-old takes a lot of pride in his fielding. Apart from Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, Shreyas is a very good outfeilder. 

Earlier in the day, Shreyas scored a sublime 82 and helped India post 357. He was in the zone from the ball one and also aced the short ball challenge with aplomb. India wanted runs from their number four, and Shreyas answered that call by playing well at his home ground at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Shreyas Iyer powers India to semis spot with an emphatic win against Sri Lanka

Team India maintained their winning streak, as they thrashed Sri Lanka by 302 runs. Chasing 358 for victory, India bowlers led by Mohammed Shami were right on the money and bundled the Lankans out for just 55 runs. It was a repeat of the Asia Cup finals, but this time, Shami picked up five wickets, and Siraj ended up taking three wickets. With this emphatic win, India have sealed the semis spot.

The Men in Blue next take on South Africa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday (November 5).
