WATCH: Rohit Sharma’s powerful shot sends umpire ducking for cover during IND vs AUS semis

Champions Trophy semis: Despite playing a few cracking shots, Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 28 by Cooper Connolly.

Rohit Sharma has become the enforcer in limited-overs cricket over the last two years but while his breathtaking stroke-play has awed fans and helped India script memorable wins, one of his shots put umpire Chris Gaffaney in serious danger in Dubai.

Rohit Sharma Bamboozles Umpire Chris Gaffaney

Chasing 265 against Australia to secure a spot in the final of the Champions Trophy 2025, Rohit Sharma once again took the onus of rapid scoring on himself and showed no signs of slowing down even after losing in-form opening partner Shubman Gill.

Nathan Ellis bowled a length ball at Rohit Sharma’s middle stump and the Indian captain did not need a second invitation to charge down the track and smash an ordinary delivery for a four – however, that powerful shot almost Chris Gaffaney took out – the umpire ducked for cover and he actually did well to get out of the firing line.

Soon, Depart for 28 in India vs Australia Semis

Chris Gaffaney recovered, got back on his feet and with a wry smile signalled a boundary. Rohit Sharma was under fire during India’s tour of Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but he has since come back and shown signs of his destructive form in the ODI format; he scored a stunning hundred against England at home and has given India some quick starts in the ongoing Champions Trophy.

But soon after that stunning shot off Ellis, Rohit Sharma fell to Cooper Connolly for 28 off 29 balls. Rohit Sharma’s captaincy has been sharp in the Champions Trophy and his leadership in the shorter formats has won him laurels all over the world. Under his captaincy, India reached the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, won the T20 World Cup and stormed into the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy by winning all their three matches in the group stages.
