A security scare unfolded at the Wankhede Stadium during the second innings of the high-voltage IPL clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Monday. In a shocking incident, a fan evaded security personnel and managed to enter the field during RR’s batting innings.
The fan ran straight to Rohit Sharma, who was caught off guard and got startled. The former MI skipper, who was standing at first slips refrained himself from the fan. The fan then went on to embrace wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan before Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) security personnel intervened and escorted him away.
RR restrict MI to 125/9 in first innings
In the first innings, RR bowlers backed their skipper Sanju Samson’s decision to bowl first. Trent Boult wreaked havoc as he reduced MI to 20/4. All three of Rohit Sharma, Naman Dhir and Dewald Brevis endured golden ducks as Boult registered his personal best IPL bowling performance for RR.
In the middle overs, it was Yuzvendra Chahal who stifled the run-chase as he picked 3/11 at an immaculate economy rate of 2.8. Hardik Pandya’s 34 ended up as the highest individual score for MI, who could only post 125/9.
