ODI World Cup 2023: Pakistan not keen to play Afghanistan in the spin-friendly Chepauk venue

Pakistan are not happy with the prospect of playing Afghanistan in Chennai. With Afghans boasting of one of the best spin attacks, Pakistan have requested ICC for the change in venues. According to ESPN Cricinfo, Babar Azam & Co are keen to play Australia in Chennai and Afghanistan on batting friendly Bangalore pitch.

“Australia in Bengaluru and Afghanistan in Chennai are the two which we should look to get changed as much as possible. Ideally, we can switch these around. Australia in Chennai and Afghanistan in Bengaluru would make us obvious favorites in both matches,” the note read.

PCB wants a change in the venue because they feel Afghanistan will have an advantage in Chennai owing to their formidable spin attack in Rashid Khan, Nabi, Noor Ahmed, and Mujeeb. While Pakistan also boasts of Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz, PCB feels it won’t be enough. The board feels Bangalore would be the ideal option owing to smaller boundary sizes, and Afghanistan’s weaker batting attack.
