WATCH: Pakistan’s Imam-ul-Haq stretchered off field after copping blow to jaw

In what was a bizarre incident, Pakistan's Imam-ul-Haq was forced to be carried off the field after fielder's throw hit his helmet

Pakistan suffered a scare in the PAK vs NZ 3rd ODI after Imam-ul-Haq was taken off the field on a stretcher. The opener was hit on his helmet while he was attempting a run and went down in pain immediately. He was forced to retire hurt and was replaced by Babar Azam in the middle.

What happened to Imam-ul-Haq?

The incident occurred in the third over of Pakistan’s run-chase when William O’Rourke was bowling to Imam. The fielder’s throw at the bowler’s end resulted in the ball hitting the batter on his helmet and getting stuck on his grille. He went down in pain and was seen clutching his jaw. He was then carried off the field on a buggy ambulance.

Pakistan named Usman Khan as the concussion substitute after Imam was carried off the field.

The rain-hit PAK vs NZ 3rd ODI in Mount Maunganui saw the hosts post 264 runs at the end of the 1st innings. The match has been reduced to 42 overs due to a wet outfield. Captain Michael Bracewell led from the front and top-scored for the team with a 59-run knock. Contributions from all batters barring Kelly saw the Kiwis being propelled to a formidable total.

Akif Javed was the standout performer with the ball for Pakistan, finishing with figures of 4/62. In response, Pakistan first lost Imam after the freak incident. Next, Abdullah Shafique (33) was sent packing by Ben Sears.

New Zealand have already sealed the series, with a 2-0 lead.
