The writing was on the cards; as soon as Hardik Pandya returned to his ‘home franchise’, his becoming Mumbai Indians’ skipper was going to happen soon or later. However, no one ever thought it would happen just a couple of weeks after Pandya returned to MI. After announcing the news, the Mumbai Indians posted a heartfelt video on their social media accounts to pay tribute to the 5-time IPL champ and their skipper for the last decade, Rohit Sharma.
In the short, 1-minute video, we get glimpses of Rohit enjoying himself with his teammates and teaching youngsters important lessons. The camaraderie between him and his teammates and his mantra as Mumbai Indians skipper can be seen in the beautiful post.
The video signed off with Rohit Sharma saying, “Smile. Whether we win or we lose, smile.” Showcasing the culture and his way of dealing with highs and lows through his decade-long run as skipper.
Rohit Sharma captaincy record for the Mumbai Indians
Rohit Sharma will go down as one of the most successful captain in IPL history. Rohit has won the most titles as a skipper in the IPL, five (along with MS Dhoni). However, unlike Dhoni, Rohit has a 5-0 record in the IPL Finals. He led the franchise in 158 matches as captain and has 87 wins under his belt.
Apart from the IPL, Rohit also helped the Mumbai Indians win their sole Champions League T20 (CLT20) in 2013.
