In a recent turn of events, a video featuring MS Dhoni, the former India cricket captain and current Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper, has gone viral on social media. The clip captures Dhoni seemingly smoking hookah at what appears to be a social gathering. The authenticity and timing of the video, however, remain in question.
The vaguely shot video has stirred mixed reactions among fans on social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter). Some express surprise at witnessing MS Dhoni indulging in smoking, considering his reputation as the epitome of fitness. The unclear origins of the video make it challenging to determine whether it is a recent occurrence or an old clip.
Notably, the controversy surrounding Dhoni’s alleged hookah session is not new. In a previous interaction with Cricket.com.au last year, former Australia limited-overs captain George Bailey, who played under MS Dhoni in both Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) and CSK in the Indian Premier League (IPL), disclosed Dhoni’s fondness for smoking hookah.
Bailey revealed, “He likes smoking a bit of the sheesha or the hookah. So, he quite often would set that up in his room, and it was very much an open-door policy. You would go in and quite often find a lot of younger players there. For India or a lot of other cricket teams, it can be hierarchical, but he certainly broke that down.”
The video has sparked discussions about Dhoni’s lifestyle choices. Despite the controversy, fans worldwide eagerly anticipate Dhoni’s return in the upcoming IPL 2024. In the previous season, Dhoni led CSK to their fifth IPL title by defeating the Gujarat Titans, led by Hardik Pandya, in 2023.
MS Dhoni underwent knee surgery in 2023, and he is currently in the rehabilitation phase. The cricketing community awaits his fitness update, with expectations high for his presence in IPL 2024. The charismatic captain continues to be a central figure in the cricketing world, both for his on-field achievements and the occasional controversies that surround him.
Recently, MS Dhoni has also collaborated with rapper MC Stan.
