To note, Shardul also completed a fine catch on the bowling of Hardik Pandya to give the birthday boy his first wicket of the game. After the match was over, team India had a mini-celebration in their dressing room.

During their ceremony, Shardul Thakur was adjudged fielder of the day by the Indian camp as he took over the title from Virat Kohli himself. Earlier, Kohli was adjudged as the best fielder by Indian camp. To note, Kohli completed a fine catch while being stationed at the first slip against Australia. India have won both World Cup matches so far

Speaking about the match, the visitors won the toss and opted to have a bat first. Skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi was pick of the batters as he stroked 80 off 88 balls. For India, senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah was exceptional as he took a 4-wicket haul. The Afghani side finished on 273 runs in their allotted 50 overs.

Chasing a tricky 273 for the win, India wasted not time thanks to their skipper Rohit Sharma who smashed his 31st ODI ton and 7th in World Cup history. He scored 131 off 84 balls. Ishan Kishan who was with him was a mere spectator as he scored 47 off 47 balls at the other end.
