Watch Kavya Maran’s priceless reaction to Sunrisers SA20 2024 title win

Marco Jansen’s five-wicket haul spearheaded the bowling attack, while a solid batting performance by Aiden Markram and Stubbs laid the foundation for victory.

In the final showdown of the second edition of SA20, the defending champions, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, secured a resounding victory over Durban Super Giants, triumphing by a massive 89 runs. Team owner Kavya Maran graced the stadium for the SA20 2024 final, exuberantly celebrating her team’s consecutive title triumph.

Electing to bat first at Newlands in Cape Town on Saturday (February 10), the Orange Army showcased their batting prowess, with Tom Abell (55) and Tristan Stubbs (56*) notching up crucial half-centuries, propelling their team to a formidable total of 204 runs for the loss of three wickets in their allotted 20 overs. The target of 205 proved insurmountable for the Super Giants, as they were bundled out for just 115 runs in 17 overs.

Sunrisers’ star Heinrich Klaasen failed to make an impact in the title clash, departing for a golden duck off Ottniel Baartman’s delivery. Marco Jansen, the Sunrisers’ versatile all-rounder, stole the spotlight with an impressive performance, claiming five wickets for 30 runs in his four-over spell.

In a viral video clip, Maran expressed her elation, remarking, “It’s a second cup. Back-to-back, two in a row. So glad, so happy. Best performance by the team with the bat and the ball. They have been dominating this whole season, and to finally get this through-I mean, it’s unbelievable to be winning it (title) back-to-back. So happy for the guys; everyone put up a great show. Very strong team that we played today, but happy to have the win at the end of the day.”

Sunrisers’ dominance was evident throughout the tournament, as they finished atop the points table in the league stage and secured their spot in the final by defeating the Durban Super Giants, led by Keshav Maharaj, on February 6. The final witnessed another commanding performance from the Sunrisers, who clinched the title with a memorable display of skill and determination.
