It seems the controversy around Angelo Mathews’ infamous ‘timed-out’ dismissal is not going to die out soon. During the NZ vs SL Cricket World Cup game at Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday, Mathews was cheekily teased by New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson and fast bowler Trent Boult.
When Angelo Mathews stepped out to bat against New Zealand, Kiwi captain Kane Williamson and pacer Trent Boult approached the all-rounder and started asking him about his helmet strap.
The video of this incident captured by the cameras during the live match is going viral on social media.
For those who are unfamiliar, Angelo Mathews became the first batter in international cricket to be dismissed timed out, after he failed to face the delivery within the stipulated two minutes during the SL vs BAN game.

Mathews’ arrived at the crease on time but before he could face his first ball, his helmet strap broke and he called for a new helmet without asking the umpires.
Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan then appealed to the on-field umpires for timed out and despite several pleas from the Sri Lankan batter, he was given out.
Talking about the ongoing match, Sri Lanka have been bowled out for 171 in a crucial match. Trent Boult was the pick of the bowlers as he took three wickets. For Sri Lanka, Kusal Perera was the top scorer with 51 runs.
Notably, the match is a must-win game for both sides but for different reasons. While a win would almost seal New Zealand’s spot for World Cup semi-final, a Sri Lanka win would help the side to boost their chances for qualifying for Champions Trophy 2025.
