In a massive piece of news to the Indian cricket team and its fans, Jasprit Bumrah is back to full fitness. The pacer, who was out of action for nearly a year due to a back injury, is currently at National Cricket Academy (NCA), bowling 8-10 overs a day. With India playing Asia Cup and ODI World Cup 2023, Bumrah is likely to feature in both. If all goes according to plan, the right-arm fast bowler could also make a comeback during the Ireland series.

A decision on the Mumbai Indians pacer playing three-match T20 series in Ireland will be taken by BCCI selectors. Last time, NCA hurried Bumrah’s return ahead of the T20 World Cup and it paid price as the 29-year-old missed the showpiece event Border Gavaskar Trophy and WTC final. While India managed to win BGT series comfortably, it displayed shambolic performances in the semis of the T20 World Cup and WTC final.
Jasprit Bumrah: Bumrah eyes to make a strong comeback during Asia Cup after a long injury layoff
It was in July 2022 that Bumrah had reported of a back problem after the second ODI against England. Subsequently, the pacer missed the third ODI and series against West Indies in August. After a two-month rehabilitation at NCA for his back, BCCI selected him for the white-ball series against South Africa in October. However, the 29-year-old could bowl only six overs as he aggravated the injury on his back.
After being out of World Cup, New Zealand, and Bangladesh tour during November December, Bumrah underwent surgery in New Zealand ahead of IPL 2023 season. After three months, the pacer is back to bowling the full quota of overs. With Asia Cup due to start likely on August 31, the pacer is set to make a roaring comeback. However, there could be a possibility of seeing Bumrah during three T20Is against Ireland
“For an injury of this nature, it is not wise to set any timeline as constant monitoring is necessary. But Bumrah is recovering well, and he has bowled seven overs at NCA nets. It is a steady increase in his workload from the light workouts and bowling sessions of the initial period. He will play a few practice matches (at NCA) next month, and there will be a close assessment of his fitness then,” a source tracking the development told PTI earlier this month.
Apart from Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer and Prasidh Krishna are also in the fray to make a comeback during Asia Cup.
