Not the reception that Hardik Pandya was expecting. The former Gujarat Titans skipper received a hostile reception upon return to his birthplace. Ahead of IPL 2024, Hardik Pandya switched sides to leave GT to join Mumbai Indians. Upon his return to his home ground, he was booed by the GT fans.
It was nothing unexpected. Hardik Pandya switched sides 2 years ago. He left Mumbai Indians to join newly incepted team Gujarat Titans. The ace all-rounder guided his side to clinch their maiden title the very same year. Next year, he took his side to finals, coming runners up to CSK.
On IPL 2024 retention day, Hardik Pandya switched sides. He re-joined Mumbai Indians, this time as the skipper of the team. Back when the IPL fixtures was released, former India cricketer, Aakash Chopra claimed that he wanted Pandya to get booed by the Motera crowd. And the exact thing happened today.
“I want Hardik Pandya to get booed in Ahmedabad. I’ll tell you why. First IPL season, Mumbai vs Kolkata. We were playing at the Wankhede Stadium. Ajit Agarkar was in our team and we had to take him off the boundary because he was Mumbai’s boy, playing against Mumbai, in Mumbai and getting booed by the Wankhede crowd. So we put him back inside the circle because it was not nice,” Aakash Chopra told JioCinema.
