India cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir reached Sri Lanka along with India Cricket Team ahead of the IND vs SL series. The three-match IND vs SL T20I and ODI series will commence on July 27. After addressing a press conference where he dropped many hints about India’s future, the new coach departed from Mumbai for the white-ball series, his first assignment after taking over as coach from Rahul Dravid.
Gambhir’s first challenge
The squad for the T20Is, led by Suryakumar Yadav, was the first to depart along with the head coach and support staff. The team for the ODIs is expected to fly out later this week. It still remains to be seen when Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will join the side in Sri Lanka.
New chapter in Indian cricket begins
A new era of Indian cricket is set to begin under Gautam Gambhir. While the T20I side has seen dynamic changes including a new skipper at the front, the seniors of the side seem to be well in sync with the former player. Veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been named as a part of the ODI squad and have ended their vacations early reportedly on the request of Gambhir.
Meanwhile, T20 World Cup winning vice-captain Hardik Pandya has been replaced as the skipper with SKY. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar explained that Hardik’s fitness was one of the prime reasons the captaincy being taken away.
