Debutant Rinku Singh did not have a dream start with the bat in the 50-over format. However, the Southpaw did manage to show something in his first ODI match as he scalped the wicket of Rassie van der Dussen in the IND vs SA 2nd ODI match. Meanwhile, the home-side completed a dominating win over the Men in Blue to level the series on Tuesday.
Speaking about his performance with the bat, Rinku Singh showed a lot of promise in his short knock on debut in the second ODI at St George’s Park in Gqeberha. Although he scored only 17 runs off 14 balls, he gave a glimpse of his stupendous talent to succeed even in the 50-over format.
He came to bat after Nandre Burger picked up his third wicket in the form of KL Rahul. Rinku started his knock by playing four dot balls off Keshav Maharaj in the 33rd over.
In the last ball of the over, Rinku churned out a classy drive through the covers to open his account in ODIs for India. In the next over, the southpaw flicked Reeza Hendricks for a four through backward square leg.
In the 35th over, Rinku again took the attack to Maharaj, this time hitting the left-arm spinner for a colossal six over the long-on region. Just when it seemed that Rinku would make it count on his maiden ODI appearance, the southpaw fell to a rash shot.
Rinku tried to play the spinner down the ground, but his back-foot came out of the crease. Heinrich Klaasen took the bails off quickly. Although the decision went upstairs, it was pretty much known that Rinku was out.
