India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, has begun practising for the upcoming IND vs AUS pink ball Test at the Adelaide Oval. During the practice he has done some knocking, then practised cuts and offside shots. The batter was also seen taking some tips from the coaches as well.
Rohit Sharma is set to play the match for sure, however, there’s some tension in the camp on Rohit’s batting position, suggesting that the skipper is likely to bat at either the opening slot or number three.
Debate over batting order
During a recent interaction, India’s former spinner Harbhajan ruled out the possibility of Rohit batting lower down the order. He emphasised that the top four batters should be the “pillars” of the batting lineup, with Rohit being a key player in these positions. “I don’t see Rohit coming in at number five or six,” Harbhajan remarked, stressing the importance of utilising Rohit’s experience and skills at the top.
Strong opening partnership in Perth
India’s recent win in the Perth Test was largely thanks to the record-breaking opening stand between KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who put up a remarkable 201-run partnership. The duo’s performance has raised questions about how the batting order will be adjusted to accommodate Rohit. According to Harbhajan, either Rohit will open with Jaiswal, pushing Rahul to number three, or Rohit himself will take the number three spot.
Adelaide awaits the Pink Ball Test
The day-night Test in Adelaide, starting Friday, will be played with the pink ball, known for its unique challenges under lights. Rohit’s form and his position in the batting order could play a crucial role in India’s strategy against a strong Australian side.
