Watch: Batter escapes miraculously as stumps hit, but bails stay in Big Cricket League

In a jaw-dropping moment in the Big Cricket League 2024, a batter survives a bizzare stumps incident.

The Big Cricket League 2024 served up another unforgettable moment in the 6th match between UP Brij Stars and MP Tigers at Lalbhai Contractor Stadium in Surat. Chirag Gandhi of UP Brij Stars, batting on 98, survived a bizarre incident when MP Tigers bowler Pawan Negi hit the stumps, but the bails refused to fall. The crowd gasped as the stumps rattled, but the bails stayed in place. According to cricket rules, the batter is not out if the bails remain on the stumps. This stroke of luck allowed Chirag to continue his innings and he eventually scored a brilliant century.

Chirag Gandhi’s heroic century in vain

Chirag Gandhi’s luck and his survival allowed him to complete a dashing century. Despite his efforts, the UP Brij Stars couldn’t overcome the MP Tigers. They lost the match by 71 runs, with Chirag’s unbeaten 101 runs from 58 balls being the standout performance for his team.

Batting first, the MP Tigers posted a huge total of 239/3, thanks to exceptional performances from Pawan Negi (87* off 38 balls) and Saket Sharma (101*). Their aggressive batting, with 16 boundaries and nine sixes, set an almost impossible target for the UP Brij Stars.

UP Brij Stars’ struggle in chase

In response, UP Brij Stars got off to a poor start, losing two early wickets. Despite Chirag Gandhi’s century and Aryan Kumar’s support with 42 runs, the team fell short and managed just 168/5 in 20 overs. MP Tigers’ bowlers, led by Faizal A, dominated, with each of Amit Mishra, Stuart Binny, and Jatin Saxena taking a wicket.
